Jets almost defeat undefeated Patriots in Foxborough - AFC East Divisional Game

The Jets lose a close divisional game to the unbeaten Patriots in week 7 this past sunday. Jets fans should not be that upset about this one considering we were playing on the road in Foxborough, one of the toughest stadiums in the NFL. We were up 10-3 late in the second quarter but New England QB Tom Brady was driving down the field. It was 3rd and ten and the Patriots were on our own 13 yard line where we made possibly the dumbest mistake this year. Our notorious defense broke down on 3rd and ten and let Tom Brady run ten yards for the first down. Tom Brady rarely runs the football. The Pats were now at our 3 yard line where we stopped them on the goal line causing 4th down. Knowing New England coach Bill Belichick, the Patriots pull a bold move and go for it on 4th down. Tom Brady hurdles over our defense for 6 making the score tied 10-10 late in the 2nd. The jets were fighting all game and staying in the game mainly due to New England's dropped passes. WR Brandon Lafell had 4 dropped passes, WR Julian Edelman had a crucial dropped touchdown pass, and star TE Rob Gronkowski had a dropped pass that should have resulted in a first down. Our secondary didn't play as well as usual mainly due to the loss of one of our leaders: hard-hitting strong safety Calvin Pryor. Our defensive front always puts pressure on every QB but Jets fans would want to see more pressure on Brady this week. The Patriots lead 16-10 late in the 3rd quarter but the Jets led by QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, are driving down the field. QB Ryan Fitzpatrick throws a screen pass to RB Chris Ivory on 2nd & 6 that leads to a touchdown. The Jets now lead 17-16 late in the 3rd quarter. Running back Chris Ivory did not play like himself this week due to a hamstring injury last week against the Washington Redskins. The Jets tack on another field goal making the score 20-16 Jets early in the 4th quarter. The Pats then answer with a long drive of their own with some completions to WR Julian Edelman and TE Rob Gronkowski. The Pats then score off a 15 yard bullet from QB Tom Brady to WR Danny Amendola. The Pats now lead 23-20 with 7 minutes left in the final quarter. The very next possession the Pats defense stops the Jets to a 3 and out. Brady then winds the clock all the way down to a minute and 15 seconds left in the quarter where he finds his big target TE Rob Gronkowski on a short screen pass that leads to 6. The Pats are now up 30-20 with less than a minute to go for the Jets to answer back. The Jets drive down the field quickly which leads to a 55 yard field goal by Nick Folk. The Jets then are forced to onside kick it where WR Brandon Marshall recovers it giving them a chance to tie the game up with 15 seconds. Ryan Fitzpatrick completed a 13 yard pass to Eric Decker but had no timeouts left. Their hurry up offense should have worked to snap the ball with 2 or 3 seconds left but Brandon Marshall was called for a false start.
